Codename: Volk is a legend among soldiers and mercenaries, famous for being as deadly with a weapon as without. His participation in numerous crusades, wars and other conflicts speaks for itself, however, and were it not for the fact that he was never properly enlisted he might now be holding a high rank in the Imperial Military.

Volk was born on a desolate planet, an environment as harsh as its people. Forced to work as a mercenary in order to survive, he learned to use numerous weapons from an early age, benefiting from a long tradition of warriors amongst his people.

However, a crusade was called against a planet nearby to his own under the control of a heretic cult called ‘InsertCultHere’. The Imperium drafted his entire continent forcibly, charging them with the crime of not having moved to destroy these heretics already. The Penal Forces of Volk’s people were fearsome and quickly developed a well-earned reputation, but when they were sent right into the heart of the Cult’s Headquarters it was only Volk who survived. Barely holding onto his life, the man was quickly treated, his limbs and too damaged tissue replaced with crude prosthetics.

Volk continued to fight in the crusade, now placed among proper commandos, but always lowest in station. Volk’s freedom was eventually achieved when a team of Acolytes crossed his path, a team in which both the future Inquisitor Septimus as well as Terminus Krin served.

His reputation had even reached the ears of the psyker noble, and he made arrangements to pay for the warrior’s release. Volk was reluctant at first, thinking he would only be a bought slave, but was surprised when Lord Krin merely offered him the opportunity of employment at a later juncture, noting that Volk was free to leave as his own man. And he did.

Twenty years later, by the time Septimus had become an Inquisitor in his own right and Terminus one of the most powerful figures of House Krin, Volk revisited the offer — his thirst for constant struggle had lessened, and the peerless fighter decided that he would find a better lot in the service of House Krin.

He did. His implants were replaced by the best money can buy, his equipment was upgraded and he even underwent a procedure to rejuvenate and enhance his entire body, at the hands of a friendly Magus Biologi who owed Terminus a favor. Not only that, but he now also holds a position of command as head of Terminus’ private forces, something Volk takes great pride in. His professional loyalty is without question, though he remains rather rough around the edges.

Volk is one tough fellow, shaped by decades of constant war, conflict and being treated as little more than a slave. He brooks no insult and doesn’t tolerate foolishness, impertinence or insubordination. His temper is famous among the soldiers under his command, who keep quite a few scars inflicted on them by their commander, but they wouldn’t trade or desert him for anything — as gruff as he is, he fiercely protects his charges as if they were his own pack.

While he at first thought it to good to be true, he is loyal to Terminus and looks up to the man after learning that their beginnings were, ironically, not so different. His loyalty goes so far that he never lies to his lord, rather accepting punishment and reprimands than offering insincere advice or incomplete reports.
